The Kirklees Adventure Trust is a registered charity (#1118213) established in March 2007. The Trust works closely with the Kirklees Outdoor Learning team but it is an independent entity relying entirely on donations and grants.

In recent years the Trust has expanded its scope to enable not only young people but also vulnerable adults to participate in adventurous, volunteering and skilled activities. In particular, we aim to assist those people who are disadvantaged or with additional needs.

We believe that financial constraints should not be a barrier to participation in adventurous activities, and as such we provide funding to individuals and organisations for this.

Main Activities:

  • To provide and support adventurous activities, notably but not exclusively the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award through voluntary effort, grant provision and fundraising.

  • To support and strengthen the facilities and resources at the Activity Centres of Little Deer Wood Mirfield and The Quarry Hill Centre in Almondbury.

  • To maintain links with interested parties and encourage their support.

  • To liaise with other activity groups to promote best practice.

We recognise that those whom we aim to help face many challenges. As part of our support we work with them to develop the confidence, motivation and skills that they need in everyday life.

"I love to see how all young people can learn new skills,  gain a sense of belonging, and develop a love of nature by accessing our wonderful outdoors. This is why I wanted to become a trustee."
